History: Not only did the introduction of the Dodge Caravan (and its Plymouth Voyager sibling) profoundly change the American automotive landscape, it changed the language: Before the fall of 1983 the word minivan was unknown. From that moment on, the rest of the auto industry has been scrambling to catch up, since DaimlerChrysler has always been one step ahead with such features as all-wheel drive, an extended-length trim, an optional driver's-side sliding door and seats with rollers for easier removal. The Dodge Caravan has been the world's best-selling minivan for 15 consecutive years. The third-generation Caravan was introduced in 1996, and along with Plymouth Voyager featured the industry's first sliding passenger door on the driver's side. For 1999 the front-end styling on all Caravans was revised, with the Sport and ES trims receiving distinctively sportier styling. The ES became the first minivan to feature the AutoStick transmission and 17-inch wheels. For 2003, the vehicle was fully redesigned.

Trim Details: The Dodge Caravan is available in eight trims, including two standard-wheelbase and six extended-wheelbase models: Caravan SE, Caravan Sport, Grand Caravan SE, Grand Caravan Sport, Grand Caravan EX, Grand Caravan ES, Grand Caravan Sport AWD, and Grand Caravan ES AWD. Safety equipment includes dual airbags, available driver and front-passenger side airbags, intermediate- and rear-seat child seat anchors, child safety locks, and an anti-lock brake system (ABS), which is optional on the SE. Standard engines are a 2.4-liter 150-horsepower 4-cylinder (SE), a 3.3-liter 180-horsepower V6 (Sport, Grand Sport, Grand SE, and Grand ES) and a 3.8-liter 215-horsepower V6 (Grand EX, Grand Sport AWD and Grand ES AWD). Standard features include a driver's side sliding rear door, an AM/FM/Cassette stereo and 50/50 Easy-Out Roller Seats for easy removal.
